How to tell if you have cavity walls
Houses were typically constructed with cavity walls after the 1930’s. Cavity walls are made up of two brick walls creating an inner an outer layer between which is a gap or a “cavity”. There are two ways for you to check if your home has cavity walls: -
Check the brick pattern of your outside walls
Looking at your outside walls, if you can only see the “long end” of the bricks and the pattern is regular – these walls are cavity walls.
If the cavity has already been filled you may be able to tell this by looking at a regular series of holes in the wall, which have been filled by cement after insulation has been installed.
Outside walls where the long side of the brick is next to the short side of the brick and the pattern in not regular are solid walls and do not have a cavity.
Check how thick your walls are
If you cannot check the brick pattern because it is covered (by rendering or cladding), attempt to measure the thickness of your walls (at a window or door area). If a wall is more than 260mm thick (10 1/4“), then it will probably have a cavity, which we can insulate for you and help you start saving money on your fuels bills.
What is the insulation?
Move2Green Ltd use a BBA approved mineral wool to fill the gap or “cavity” between your inner and outer walls.
